Interviews

Video cuts between two interviews, the first in a paddock with representatives of the Upper Hopkins Upper Hopkins Landcare Group and the second with John Pye at the Grampians Rail Trail with representatives of Landmate.

Sybil Abbot-Burmeister (farmer, Upper Hopkins Landcare Group): A project like this would be absolutely impossible without the Landmate crew.

John Pye (Friends of the Grampian Rail Trail): It creates a big multiplier effect on the outcomes for any project that you could actually have.

Ayesha Burdett (Landcare Facilitator, Upper Hopkins Land Management Group): Everyone is just so happy to have the Landmate crew on there. They are really happy to receive that funding from DELWP, but without the support of the Landmate crew… that’s what really makes the difference.

John Pye: It’s very easily managed and its very easily run. It’s actually quite good working with the prisoners.

Matthew Menhennet (Landmate and Agricultural Manager Prison Industries, Corrections Victoria): Yep.

John Pye: So, yeah, it’s a win for everyone.

Voiceover:

At a time when prisoners may soon be released, to be able to give back to the community is hugely important. Prisoners get real physical, social and mental benefits, being able to work on projects within the community.

Title: Loddon River – Loddon Shire Council

Aerial view of grassed and treed park area bordering on the river.

Video returns to interviews

Andrew (Landmate Supervisor – Grampians Region, Corrections Victoria): They’re in a good outdoor setting, they’re learning new skills… and just that bit of normality … to get out.

Mathew Menhennet: Yep

John Pye: Suddenly, you’ve got… anything is possible, because you’ve got a skilled and willing workforce that can produce really good outcomes.

Mathew Menhennet: It really does build up their social and their mental and even their physical wellbeing.
